It was not easy to come up with this list - there are many great Bollywood movies out there! We thought long and hard about the movies and after much deliberation, here are our top five picks:
1. Sholay (1975): Directed by Ramesh Sippy, this classic is considered to be one of the greatest Indian films of all time. The movie stars Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Jaya Bhaduri, and Amjad Khan in lead roles. The movie follows two small-time criminals, Veeru and Jai, who are hired by a retired police officer to capture a notorious dacoit. Sholay is a great blend of action, comedy, romance, and drama, and is a must-watch for any Bollywood movie fan.
2. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995): Directed by Aditya Chopra, this movie became one of the first Indian films to be released internationally. It stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead roles and tells the story of two young people who fall in love against the backdrop of a traditional Indian family. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is truly a timeless classic and is still loved by millions of people around the world.
3. 3 Idiots (2009): Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, this movie was a huge success at the box office and is one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. Starring Dilip Kumar, Madhubala, and Prithviraj Kapoor in the lead roles, the movie follows the story of a young prince and his love for a court dancer. Mughal-e-Azam is visually stunning and is packed with emotion, drama, and romance.
